WHEN WILL YOU STOP AND SMELL THE ROSES? (to Dave Bedaña)

I was with my friend Dave a few days back and we were talking about goals and actions. He is but 25 and yet he has proven himself worthy to be a leader at a very young age. He is quite restless though, it seems that he belongs to a family of over-achievers hence at a very young age he also wants to prove himself to his parents, who do expect a lot from him. The pressure is all but consuming.
That night I thought of my son who is just turning 2 years and I became worried, hence I am now writing him a letter as early as now to remind him of things that matter.
Dear Ulrich,
Before I say anything else I would like to say “I LOVE YOU, with all my heart, my soul , my life.”
I am writing just to explain some things that I would like you to consider as you go through your life’s journey.
My dear baby, life is like riding a bus on your way to a certain place. You have your backpack ready, your allowance, your skills and your wit. As you travel there are times when the bus will stay on their designated stops. As you travel anak, I would like you to stare at the window and marvel on the beautiful things that you will see. The smell of grass, the raindrop on the window pane, the colors of the places and even the beautiful smile on the faces of the people you meet. I would like you to make stops.
Please do not hurry on my account. I would like you to set your goals in life but not set your life on your goals.
I would like you to stop on bus stops, and see what every stop has to offer that will enrich your life, your heart, and your being. I don’t want you posed in pictures but not knowing the story of each one. If you need to stay a little longer, you may take a walk and just get another bus ride (they say opportunity only knocks once, it’s not true son, opportunity only knocks once on your door if you do not deserve it, that is why most of them grab it as soon as it knocks and never let go).
You on the other hand I would like to have choices. I would like you to be happy in simple things. I would like you to see the beauty of life . Take it slowly, you will only live once, that is why I want to make sure that you will not ride a bus and never stop.
Stop on bus stops and do take a walk, slow down. Breathe deeply and smell the grass, shake hands with people, share stories with them, smile with them, . Take a walk through the rain, you have enough clothes in your backpack.
The next day after a good rest, watch the sunrise in all its glory and taste how delicious your coffee is. You need not be rushing your way to your goal when you have good friends with you and good health. You should learn when to stop. Anak, there is no sense in reaching your goal if you have not live your life at all.
So when you find yourself in a bus, breaking speed to reach your goal. Please do remember me asking this question: “WHEN WILL YOU STOP TO SMELL THE ROSES?” They might fade you know, and when you realize you want to, they already wilted to nothingness and all but lost in your past.

Installing LOVE (THE "IT" WAY)
Customer: Well, I'm not very technical, but I think I'm ready to install it now. What do I do first?

Tech Support: No problem. LOVE will gradually erase PAST-HURT.EXE from your current operating system. It may remain in your permanent memory, but it will no longer disrupt other programs. LOVE will ventually overwrite LOW-ESTEEM.EXE with a module of its own called HIGH-ESTEEM.EXE. However, you have to completely turn off GRUDGE.EXE and RESENTMENT.COM. Those programs prevent LOVE from being properly installed. Can you turn those off, ma'am?
Customer: I don't know how to turn them off. Can you tell me how?
Tech Support: My pleasure. Go to your Start menu and invoke FORGIVENESS.EXE. Do this as many times as necessary until it's erased the programs you don't want.
Customer: Okay, now LOVE has started installing itself automatically. Is that normal?
Tech Support: Yes. You should receive a message that says it will reinstall for the life of your HEART. Do you see that message?

Tech Support: Don't worry, ma'am, that's a common problem. It means that the LOVE program is set up to run on external HEARTs but has not yet been run on your HEART. It is one of those complicated programming things, but in non-technical terms it means you have to "LOVE" your own machine before it can "LOVE" others.
Customer: So what should I do?
Tech Support: Can you pull down the directory called "SELF-ACCEPTANCE"?
Customer: Yes, I have it.
Tech Support: Excellent. You're getting good at this. Now, click on the following files and then copy them to the "MYHEART" directory:
FORGIVE-SELF.DOC, REALIZE-WORTH.TXT, and ACKNOWLEDGE-LIMITATIONS.DOC. The system will overwrite any conflicting files and begin patching any faulty programming. Also, you need to delete SELF-CRITIC.EXE from all directories, and then empty your recycle bin afterwards to make sure it is completely gone and never comes back.

Installing LOVE (THE "IT" WAY)
Customer: Well, I'm not very technical, but I think I'm ready to install it now. What do I do first?
Tech Support: The first step is to open your HEART. Have you located your HEART, ma'am?

Tech Support: What programs are running, ma'am?

Tech Support: No problem. LOVE will gradually erase PAST-HURT.EXE from your current operating system. It may remain in your permanent memory, but it will no longer disrupt other programs. LOVE will ventually overwrite LOW-ESTEEM.EXE with a module of its own called HIGH-ESTEEM.EXE. However, you have to completely turn off GRUDGE.EXE and RESENTMENT.COM. Those programs prevent LOVE from being properly installed. Can you turn those off, ma'am?
Customer: I don't know how to turn them off. Can you tell me how?
Tech Support: My pleasure. Go to your Start menu and invoke FORGIVENESS.EXE. Do this as many times as necessary until it's erased the programs you don't want.
Customer: Okay, now LOVE has started installing itself automatically. Is that normal?
Tech Support: Yes. You should receive a message that says it will reinstall for the life of your HEART. Do you see that message?
Customer: Yes, I do. Is it completely installed?
Tech Support: Yes, but remember that you have only the base program. You need to begin connecting to other HEARTs in order to get the upgrades.
Customer: Oops. I have an error message already. What should I do?
Tech Support: What does the message say?
Customer: It says "ERROR 412-PROGRAM NOT RUN ON INTERNAL COMPONENTS." What does that mean?
Tech Support: Don't worry, ma'am, that's a common problem. It means that the LOVE program is set up to run on external HEARTs but has not yet been run on your HEART. It is one of those complicated programming things, but in non-technical terms it means you have to "LOVE" your own machine before it can "LOVE" others.
Customer: So what should I do?
Tech Support: Can you pull down the directory called "SELF-ACCEPTANCE"?
Customer: Yes, I have it.
Tech Support: Excellent. You're getting good at this. Now, click on the following files and then copy them to the "MYHEART" directory:
FORGIVE-SELF.DOC, REALIZE-WORTH.TXT, and ACKNOWLEDGE-LIMITATIONS.DOC. The system will overwrite any conflicting files and begin patching any faulty programming. Also, you need to delete SELF-CRITIC.EXE from all directories, and then empty your recycle bin afterwards to make sure it is completely gone and never comes back.
Customer: Got it. Hey! My HEART is filling up with new files. SMILE.MPG is playing on my monitor right now and it shows that PEACE.EXE, and CONTENTMENT.COM are copying themselves all over my HEART. Is this normal?
Tech Support: Sometimes. For others it takes a while, but eventually everything gets downloaded at the proper time. So, LOVE is installed and
running. You should be able to handle it from here. Ah, one more thing.
Customer: Yes?
Tech Support: LOVE is freeware. Be sure to give it and its various modules to everybody you meet. They will in turn share it with other people and they will return some similarly cool modules back to you.

ON SINGLENESS AND BEING COMPLETE
THIS POST IS DEDICATED TO ALL THE WOMEN I KNOW WHO ARE COMPLETELY SINGLE, AND HAPPILY COMPLETE! (Please feel free to post more of what you can share with us all women.)
Single
All your life, you had specific dreams about what your family life would be like when you finally married.
You were so intent on what you wanted; you even made a list of qualities and characteristics you were looking for in a spouse, in a home, in your job, in your children.
But time passed, and that person you were so intent on didn't come along.
All of your friends married, had children, and had beautiful homes. And still you ARE SINGLE.
You prayed and prayed for that person to come along, but nothing happened.
You had a good job. You served in your church. You spent daily time with the Lord in prayer and studying the Word.
You dedicated your life to serving God in every way possible, but still nothing.
So you decided to take matters into your own hands, and you began an active search for a mate. And within a short period, you met someone who almost fit the bill. Almost. Sure, there were a few things Missing, a few rusty spots in that person's character. But, after all, no one is perfect.
Of course, your friends and your pastor tried to council you that you were making a poor choice and that you should wait for the Lord to send the right person. But that couldn't be right. You had waited for a long time.
Maybe your goals were too high. Maybe you'd been asking for the impossible. Maybe this was the person God wanted for you so your character could grow through dealing with his or her failings.
So you married. And your life went downhill from there......
Even though it often seems that God is slow to answer prayers, no matter whether it's about a mate, or a job, or our children, or our finances, or anything else, we have to remember that God doesn't wear a watch. Nor does He look at our human calendars. He sees with eternal eyes. He
operates on an eternal timetable, according to His plan and His schedule. If God seems to be running late, don't get impatient and run ahead of Him.
Wait for the Lord's timing in everything. To the single folks out there, this is for you.
Single means you have the time to grow and be the person you want to be.
Single gives you space to grow. Sometimes, it is harder to grow when you are too close to someone. Trees are planted far apart so they can spread their branches and become strong as they mature.
Single means learning to live by yourself. However, that is no more difficult than learning to live with somebody else.
Single means freedom. You are free to spend a week's vacation on the beach, to take computer courses, to work late on an interesting project, to spend the day in bed with a good book or simply with a person who has read one.
Single means learning not to need a man/woman to make your life meaningful but learning to live with a man/woman because you want to be with him/her.
Single means that sometimes you will wonder why you will bite your lip and feel wistful and wonder if marriage is better.
Ironically, yet quite happily, single is feeling good about being in control of your life. It is liking and respecting who you are and why you are.
Single is realizing that being married is not necessarily better, it is merely different.
Single means that there could be something wonderful around the corner and you can take advantage of it.
Single means you are free to love again.
There are times when we are afraid of telling the person, whom we love or like, what we feel deep inside because we might just lose them. That's a big risk...I know. But hey....everything is. The way I see it is why keep something inside and then end up regretting it in the near future?
But as I've said....everything is a big risk. SO whatever you decide to do with your feelings.... whether you tell it to that person or not...you have to be ready with the consequences that come after it and accept it.
Whatever decisions that you have made in your life is part of your growing experience...part of life. Whatever decisions that you have to make will influence or affect your future. So think hard before deciding on certain things and PRAY TO GOD and He will show you the way.

MAKING OF A WEDDING INVITATION By IKO's MOM
I am no artist but being poor can bring out the best in people.
My husband's nephew Jerald is getting married on March 27, 2010. Life is never easy and sometimes we need to be practical about things.
Jerald asked me if I could help him out with the invitations as he is on a tight budget, that probably if I could go to Recto (the printing mill of the Philippines) I could get it cheaper. So I scouted for wedding invitations and found out that the cheapest I could get an invitation for is PHP 45.00 each.
Considering they need 50 pieces (only 50 pieces) that will amount to more than PHP2000. And like I said we want to be practical about it so I decided instead to create his wedding invitations. Good thing that Jerald trust me more than I trust myself. So I proceeded with making his wedding invitations.
Here are the steps.
1st STEP: Decide what you want and stick with it.
Jerald and Malen chose green as the color. Anything green. This is a good thing that they did not choose apple green, light green, dark green. I really don't get it why they should choose a specific green anyway; it is not as if we are in preparatory school right? So anything green is good, because it will give more room for creativity.
They also decided to make it Filipino to make it different, anyway the reception will be held at their Farm. So it is very thematic.
2nd STEP: Look for the designs
I am no computer whiz kid, but I do know 2 things, I know how to browse through the internet and use Microsoft Word.
So I browsed for the designs and found one I like. I copied a border from Microsoft Office Online and use the MS Word picture formatting to change the color. I then type the contents of the invitation. I liked a lot of elegant designs I have seen on the net but considering the tight budget, elegance is not cheap so I need to make it simple but pretty.
As regards the content and template, I browse through the internet and made the necessary changes, specifically with the vows.
3rd STEP: Buying materials.
Most people would opt to go to Divisoria Manila to buy materials, but considering that you will only buy a few of the materials and that the fare and travel is consuming I decided instead to go to the nearest Market Center we have.
You can buy materials from bookstores. Although you can buy a lot from National Bookstore I really do not recommend it. It is very expensive there. Usually the prices are 50% to 100% higher than the price you can get it from other stores. You can try going to Merriam-Webster, they are not that popular anymore, so their prices are lower compared to NB. I remember buying a pair of scissors from Benita's Store in Novaliches for PHP 25.00 when I checked it in NB it is PHP50.00. I guess it is the ambience that I am paying.
Anyway I bought scissors with different edges, ribbons, parchment papers, envelopes (for the invitations), lots of green ribbons of different kinds, and a one-hole-puncher (PHP25 only) and green scented cardboard-papers.
4th STEP: MAKING IT REAL
I printed the invitation. Usually for colored printing you get to pay around PHP8 per page. This is what may cost a lot. But if you have a friend who owns a printer you can have it printed by him and just pay him PHP3.00 per page, anyway you are friends and I'm sure his ink is refillable.
After printing it, I cut the papers and sort them out. It came out with 4 pages.
I then punch holes on the top and put ribbons in it. The cardboard I also cut to be proportioned with the papers.
I just cut the edges of the cardboard with different designs. It is a very simple one. In total I only spent around PHP800.00 for 52 pieces of this invitation.
I then placed them in envelopes and had the groom and bride deliver them.
It is a very simple design but it was worth it. It is personalized and it is in Filipino, even the vows.
This is of course given you only have a week to prepare. So if you plan a wedding give the invitation at least 2 weeks and if you want it to look really elegant, well be prepared to spend more than PHP800 for 50 pieces. But if you have a friend who owns a printing press, well that is whole different story.
